My hair is overall dry and overworked. My ends split and break very easily. I'm trying to grow out my hair and feel I'm getting nowhere when my ends just keep breaking off. I have limited my use of a blow dryer however I still straighten/curl my hair on a daily basis. I do color my hair, and I go to a salon every 8-10 wks. I have tried Aveda (which worked fairly well), Nexxus and at the moment Biosilk. I have also tried Sunsilk TLC which works okay. Can you reccomend any cheaper brands that work well? Or how about any home remedies to help? Thanks in advance.
How do you prevent split ends and breakage?
Get a good deep conditioner. Put it on your hair once every 7-10 days, put a plastic bag on your head, and use a hair dryer over it to about 10 minutes.
Use protective products when you straighten/curl your hair.
Reply:Color and flat irons can be deadly for your hair if used over a long period of time. you are doing the right thing by getting the ends trimmed often but the heat of the flat iron can be a problem. A good product for this is Redken Anti-snap. It is a leave in product that you use on the ends of your hair only and has worked on many of my clients. they swear by it. I hope you find this info useful and I hope you get the healthy, shiny hair you are looking for.
Reply:I have very thick, kinky-curly hair that I straighten and color often. I know how you feel. I use Garnier Fructis Length and Strength. There's a shampoo, conditioner, and a leave-in conditioner. They're all really cheap products, and they really work. It's made my hair stronger and more healthy despite my abuse of chemicals and the straightening iron. A friend in college recommended it to me, and I recommend it everyone else. I hope this helps. Good luck.
Reply:Use Dove Advanced Care Therapy shampoo and conditioner. They also have one for colored hair.
It's great because it moisturizes really well, but doesn't weigh your hair down like so many other shampoos will.
I would recommend laying off with the daily straightening. It can really damage your hair.
A great product to use before straightening is Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray by Tresemme. It works wonders!
Reply:Pantene pro v smooth and sleek. I have hair to my waist and I use that every time. Also, to prevent breakage and damage, don't brush your hair while it's wet. Straightening your hair every day will cause split ends, try and find a serum that protects your hair when you straighten it.
Reply:I have the same problem. Be very careful when combing or brushing your hair. I'm watching for the other answers, too.
